Meet the Cat Veterinarians in Roanoke, VA
Doctors Who Specialize in Caring for Cats
Connie J. Canode, DVM
Growing up on a small farm in Craig County, VA, instilled in me a love for animals, especially cats, and this love never left me. After graduating from high school I had planned on having a career in nursing. Upon graduation from college, I moved to the Charleston area of South Carolina and worked at the Medical University. While there I fell in love with the Isle of Palms area, and I knew someday I would be back.
As life goes, I moved back to Virginia, and worked in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. I love nursing and the experience that came with the job, but my true love of animals kept calling me. A woman being a veterinarian was just unheard of back in the day. Anyone that knows me, knows that telling me women are not veterinarians knew that this would not fly with me. It made me more determined than ever. I enrolled at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (VA TECH), and I was in the second graduating class of the school.
After graduation, I worked for five years at a local veterinary clinic. This experience gave me the desire to open my own practice. In 1990, I fulfilled my dream by opening Veterinarians to Cats, and as they say I have never looked back.
I have met so many wonderful people here in the Roanoke Valley and surrounding areas. The trust they have placed in me with the care of their special family member means so much. I look forward to providing years of kitty care along with taking relaxing vacations at my beach house on the Isle of Palms.
Kevin Britt, DVM
Dr. Britt is a proud Buckeye, having graduated from the Ohio State University in 1984. He moved to Roanoke from the DC Metro area in 2003 with his family and joined Vets To Cats in 2004. He and his wife, Sue Huntington, have enjoyed raising their three children in the Roanoke Valley. They currently share their home with two cats, Stache and LC, a silly dog, Martha, and his son’s two fish.
Kevin is active in his church choir and enjoys playing his sax in the praise bands at two churches. He likes hanging out with his family and going to live theatre. He enjoys knitting when he really needs to relax.
Kevin’s father was a veterinarian and he cannot remember not having a cat and other pets growing up. He loves caring for the wonderful cats and their human parents that he sees at Veterinarians To Cats. He looks forward to many more years of service to the Roanoke feline community.
Dana McAllister, DVM
I grew up in New Hampshire surrounded by animals-whether it was riding horses or taking care of my family’s cats, dogs, various exotic mammals, reptiles, and fish. Having exposure to so many species gave me an incredible passion for the diverse creatures we call family and make part of our lives, and the ways in which they have unique requirements and physiologies. From the time I was old enough to have a career aspiration, I knew I wanted to be a Veterinarian. After graduating high school, I completed my undergraduate degree at American University in Washington, DC. I spent two years working as a Veterinary Technician at a small animal hospital and a Medical Assistant for an OBGYN before returning to complete veterinary school at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (Virginia Tech).
While I have a love for all animals, cats have always been the companions I bonded with most strongly. I am particularly grateful for the opportunity to care for your feline family member in a practice dedicated to the special behavioral and medical needs of our kitty friends!
In my free time I enjoy hiking and spending time outdoors, cooking at home, or on the couch reading with my two cats, Daisy and Olive, and my dog, Charlotte.
